Harris County ( Houston) District Clerk Criminal Intake, Criminal Courts & Criminal Records

In Harris County, the District Clerk serves the twenty-two (22) felony Criminal District Courts, and the fifteen (15) misdemeanor Harris County Criminal Courts at Law.

From the very beginning in the life of a criminal case file, Criminal Intake clerks receive charging instruments from the District Attorney’s Office, generate a criminal case in the Countywide Justice Information Management System (JIMS) database and assemble the physical case file folder including the initial charging document within. This case file is routed to the respective criminal court, and the file, including incoming filings and case documents, is maintained by Criminal Court Clerks until it is scheduled for review.

The Court Clerk makes and maintains an accurate, permanent record of all proceedings, and issues all processes emanating from the court.
